Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM), Superyacht Solutions and AkzoNobel (manufacturers of International and Awlgrip yacht paints) teamed up to support Volunteer Marine Rescue-Southport (VMR) with a repaint of their 24 foot Power Cat, ‘Marine Rescue 4.’ The project was also the first time Awlgrip’s new revolutionary topcoat, Awlgrip High Definition Technology (HDT), was used in Australia.
AwlGrip HDT is a high-performance, mirror-like polyurethane clearcoat uniquely combining superior hardness and micro-scratch resistance with reparability. This unprecedented combination of features make it perfectly suited not only for large superyachts looking for the ultimate finish, but also for hard-working vessels like the VMR boats; the combination of durability and reparability guarantees a long, yet well-presented, coating life.
GCCM hauled out ‘Marine Rescue 4’ and placed her in a covered refit shed where Superyacht Solutions skilfully prepared the topsides hull and applied Quick Build Primer and Awlcraft SE topcoat in the VMR’s chosen colour ‘Fleet White’. The Awlgrip HDT Clearcoat was then applied under the supervision and guidance of Kane Barfoot from AkzoNobel as part of a training and familiarisation session for the Superyacht Solutions team.
To achieve the ultimate finish, the VMR vessel was treated to a total of 4 coats of Awlgrip HDT Clearcoat applied over two sessions and finished to perfection by the Superyacht Solutions team. Few Volunteer Marine Rescue vessels around the world can boast having received such a superyacht treatment! We hope Gold Coast boaters won’t be calling out the VMR simply to admire the finish off their vessel.
GCCM is a proud supporter of VMR-Southport and was glad to work with leading industry partners Superyacht Solutions and AkzoNobel on this project.
