2022 was a big year for the world. We saw the reopening of country borders allowing for international travel, we watched the Beijing Olympics, we lost Queen Elizabeth after a 70-year reign and we saw the world’s population cross the 8 Billion mark. GCCM has seen some big changes as well. To celebrate how far we’ve come we wanted to take a look at some of our top highlights from 2022.
Read below the key achievements that made the team at GCCM proud last year.
New Management Team
2022 saw the appointment of Andrew Chapman – CMM as our new COO, overseeing the management and development of our award-winning facility. Andrew has brought to GCCM his extensive background in marina and boatyard management, and since commencing his new role has helmed the GCCM ship to continue its growth trajectory. Andrew’s marina planning, construction and management experience since 1984 have seen him bring innovative business plans to GCCM.
Focussing on GCCM’s existing strengths, Andrew has been working hard to increase our customers’ refit/maintenance experience and service and has delivered.
“I see the opportunity to improve the customer experience at GCCM and make it easier for all our customers and contractors to do business on our extensive award-winning hardstand and marina,” explained Chapman. “GCCM is a great brand that I am proud to be associated with”.
Our Project Management Offer
In line with providing 5 Gold Anchor service and the best outcomes possible for our clients, 2022 saw the reorganisation of GCCM Project Management offer.
“We know our customers are pressed for time and we know their boat is their means of escape. They want their boat in tip-top condition and ready to hit the water when schedules permit, yet they often simply don’t have the time to coordinate the required maintenance. They want a trusted partner with access to leading trades, so all it takes is one phone call and it’s done,” says GCCM’s Chief of Operations, Andrew Chapman.
When you bring your boat to GCCM, you can rely on a personalised approach from arrival to accessing our site and project management services that will make your refit of maintenance time painless. Each project is delivered specifically to the needs of the boat and her owner.
GCCM project management team schedules the contractors to get each vessel back in the water faster and more efficiently.
The 2022 ACREW Awards
October saw the 2022 ACREW Awards results, and the Gold Coast Marina & Shipyard shined brightly once again. Assessing the world’s leading superyacht businesses, ACREW’s 15,000-strong network of crew and captains voted GCCM the Best International Superyacht Refit.
This highly coveted Award recognises the specialised efforts in shore support to ensure the best refit results for yachts. Voting is based on the Refit Yard’s willingness to communicate and work with the Captain and owner to prioritise the work that needs to be done both seamlessly and efficiently.
Criteria for the award included Customer Service, Safety & Procedures, Location, Up to Date Facilities, Accessibility, Large Slipway, Hoisting Capacity and Security.
The Acrew Awards have been developed to reward crews that have proven themselves to be the very best at their job providing industry-wide recognition of professional excellence. The Acrew Awards 2022 encompassed 20 award categories that draw attention to the efforts and dedication of the finest businesses in the Superyacht Industry.
Boating Industry Academy
Focussing on the boating industry’s future, in 2022 the Boating Industry Association (BIA) and the Australian Industry Trade College (AITC) teamed up to establish the Boating Industry Academy. GCCM are proud to be one of the academy’s founding industry partners.
The Boating Industry Academy is an industry-driven program for high school students who wish to pursue a career in the boating and marine industries. Students in Year 10 or 11 who participate spend 5 weeks per school term at the AITC Robina campus and up to 28 weeks a year gaining boating industry experience at the Coomera marine precinct.
This month (January 2023) the specialist program starts at the AITC and we look forward to welcoming students to our Coomera facility later in the year.
Superyacht Ready Accreditation
December saw GCCM become one of the first marinas accredited as Superyacht Ready by the Marina Industries Association, the only shipyard so far to qualify for this prestigious accreditation.
Superyacht Ready is available to Global Gold Anchor-accredited marinas that satisfy the program’s assessment standards.
