Captain to Captain. The perfect fit for gold-standard refits

Captain to Captain. The perfect fit for gold-standard refits

Spend five minutes with Pete Grocock, GCCM’s new Shipyard Projects Manager, and you will soon realise he has boundless energy, enthusiasm and drive backed up with some serious credentials and experience.  All in all, it is the perfect combination for Pete’s role in attracting and managing major superyacht refits to GCCM.

Australian by birth and adventurer by nature, Pete has over 30 years experience in the marine and water sports industries.  He has spent the last 17 years in the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mediterranean and USA steadily working his way up the ladder on luxury vessels from positions as Deckhand and Engineer to Captain, Project Manager and Build Captain.
During his time abroad, Pete accumulated a variety of International marine qualifications to compliment his existing Australian tickets, working on a series of yachts including a 181-foot Feadship (MY Huntress) and one the Carribean’s hardest working charter yachts (MY Miracle).

In more recent years Pete has completed a multitude of significant refits and new build projects in various shipyards around the globe.

At the 2017 edition of Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Kevin Altera the General Manager for Operations & Business Development at GCCM, happened upon ‘Aussie Pete’ (as he has become well-known) and knew straight away he was just the fit for the growing market demand on GCCM for superyacht refits and major projects.

“What impressed me most about Pete when I met him in Fort Lauderdale was his energy and his genuine enthusiasm for what he does.  His reputation amongst captains and yards worldwide is incredibly strong and remarkably consistent.  We are really excited to have him join our team here at GCCM and look forward to the value that he can add to our Shipyard Services team,” explained Kevin.
Being an avid surfer Pete could think of no better place to drop anchor than GCCM on Queensland’s stunning Gold Coast.  After all, there are not many places that boast world-class shipyard facilities and surf in the same city.

“This would have to be one of the best yard locations in the world for crew.  We’ve got all of the benefits of a major capital city and 57 kilometres of incredible surf beaches and a world-heritage listed rainforest right on our doorstep’” Pete observed.
After only two weeks on the job, Pete has started with his first multimillion dollar refit at the yard ensuring a strong and transparent project management regime for the benefit of the captain, yard and onsite contractors.

Pete remarked, “GCCM is undoubtedly world-class in terms of facilities but I’ve also been blown away with the quality of the onsite contractors and the way that they all work so seemlessly together.  I have truly never come across a yard with so much variety and so much depth of experience and craftsmanship.  It’s awe-inspiring.”

On behalf of all the team at GCCM, we welcome Aussie Pete to the yard and look forward to a great partnership.
